Wiring Overview

The diagram above shows how the ACTAtek terminal connects to door strikes and sensors. Always use a dedicated 12VDC power supply separate from the door lock, and install a diode to prevent back-EMF damage.

Surface Mount Installation

  1. Choose a location away from direct sunlight or overhead lighting to ensure accurate biometric authentication.
  2. Route cables as per the wiring manual before mounting.
  3. Print and affix the ACTAtek Drilling Template; mark pilot holes and ensure it is level.
  4. Drill pilot holes and drive screws to secure the mount.
  5. Pull cables through and connect them securely to the device.
  6. Attach the device to the wall mount bracket and tighten the security screw.

Wiring Configurations

Fail-Safe Power applied to LOCK — releases on power loss. Default unlocked during power failure.
Fail-Secure Power applied to UNLOCK — stays locked on power loss. For high-security doors.
UPS Backup Uninterruptible power supply variant for fail-safe and fail-secure configurations.
Interlocking Sequential door control — first door must close before second unlocks, preventing tailgating.

Network Setup

  • Cabling: Use Cat5e or Cat6 Ethernet for ACTAtek and IP Reader units.
  • Power: Use separate 12V DC supply for devices and locks — do NOT share with door hardware.
  • PoE Option: Single cable delivers both power and data, simplifying installation.
  • WiFi: IEEE 802.12 a/b/g/n/ac for areas where cable runs are impractical.
  • SIM Card: 4G/5G for remote locations with no LAN infrastructure.
  • IP Address: Static or DHCP. IP whitelisting available for access restriction.
  • Diode Protection: Install 1N4004 (12V/1A) or 6A1 (1–6A) on door controller wires to prevent back-EMF damage.
