Connecting ACTAtek Devices to WiFi Using Ethernet Bridge

Solution

Overview

ACTAtek devices without the built‑in WiFi module cannot use external USB WiFi dongles. If the device was not originally ordered with WiFi capability, a USB adapter cannot be added afterward.

However, since ACTAtek devices include an Ethernet port, you can connect them wirelessly by using a WiFi-to-Ethernet bridge (also known as a wireless Ethernet adapter or travel router in client mode). This method is commonly used at exhibitions to connect ACTAtek devices to nearby WiFi access points or mobile hotspots.

Step-by-Step Setup

1. Obtain a WiFi-to-Ethernet Adapter

  • Recommended model: TP-Link TL-WR902AC Travel Router (configured in Client Mode).

  • Alternative: Any similar WiFi bridge device.

  • Example purchase link: Amazon – TP-Link TL-WR902AC

The adapter connects to the local WiFi network and provides a standard Ethernet output to the ACTAtek device.

2. Connect the Adapter to ACTAtek

  • Use an Ethernet cable to connect the adapter’s LAN port to the ACTAtek device’s Ethernet/LAN port.

3. Configure the WiFi Bridge

  • Power on the adapter using its supplied power adapter or USB source.

  • Connect to the adapter’s configuration interface (usually via its temporary WiFi SSID and web management page).

  • Enter the SSID and password for the target WiFi access point or hotspot.

4. Verify ACTAtek Network Connection

  • Once the adapter connects to WiFi, the ACTAtek device will treat it as a normal wired Ethernet connection.

  • Enable DHCP initially so the device can obtain a valid IP address automatically.

  • After confirming the assigned IP, disable DHCP and set a fixed IP address for stability.

Check IP Address: Press the ENTER button six times consecutively. Example display: 192.168.1.200

Test Connectivity: From a computer on the same network, open Command Prompt and enter the following:

 ping 192.168.1.200

⚠️ Ensure the WiFi bridge, ACTAtek device, and testing computer are all on the same network and IP range.

Summary

  •  ACTAtek devices without built‑in WiFi cannot use USB WiFi dongles.
  • Use a WiFi-to-Ethernet bridge (e.g., TP-Link TL-WR902AC in Client Mode).

  • Configure the bridge to connect to your WiFi AP, then link it to ACTAtek via Ethernet.

  • Verify IP settings and test connectivity with a ping command.
